The Compact Disc Turns 30: Library Employee Sam Brylawski on NPR

Sam Brylawski from the Department of Special Collections contributed his insights to a story on NPR on the 30th anniversary of the compact disc.  First introduced in 1982, this musical format is just one in a long line of formats used to sell commercial recordings.  Brylawski is editor of the library's Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings an online index of recordings made by the Victor Talking Machine Company.

Mysteries of Copy Cards, Printing, and Photocopying Revealed!

purchasing a copy cardThe library has both public photocopiers and public printers for your convenience.  Photocopiers accept coins, cash, and copy cards.  You will need to buy a copy card to print from our public printers or microform machines, and to get copies of Special Collections materials.

To find them, go down the ramp to where we keep the reference books and current serials.  Angle back to the southwest corner of the building.  The machines are in the stairwell. 

Now you don't have to leave the library in search of late-night munchies while you are here for overnight study.

Don't Forget Maps in Artists' Books

Artist Agnes Denes' current exhibition at the Santa Monica Museum of Art reminds us that the Arts Library is another great location on campus to find maps.  Denes' 1979 book, Isometric Systems in Isotropic Space: Map Projections is available for use in the Art Library, just a short walk from MIL towards the UCEN.

New Graduate Study Room Now Open on 2nd Floor

We have added a new study room just for graduate students on the 2nd floor of Davidson Library.  The new room is on the southwest side of the floor and significantly increases the seating available.  This room is for quiet study only.  Keys to any of our graduate study rooms can be checked out at the Circulation/Reserves desk.
