EGSL Display Honors Gerda Lerner

Gerda LernerA new display in the Ethnic & Gender Studies Library honors Gerda Lerner.  Lerner (1920-2013), is widely considered to be responsible for establishing women’s history as a legitimate field of study. A pioneer in the field of Women’s Studies, she wrote extensively about the role of women in history and is believed to have taught the first course in women’s history at Sarah Lawrence College in 1968.  Thanks to pioneers such as Gerda  Lerner, Women’s Studies is now an essential component of history curriculums both in the U.S. and abroad.
