MIL has computers exclusively reserved for work on digital spatial data. These computers run ArcGIS 10.2.2, Google Earth Pro, and Adobe Creative Suite.  The workstations also have access to our nearline data stored on the Library LAN.  The MIL computers are available for use during department hours only. To ensure the availablilty of a computer, please make an appointment prior to visiting MIL.  Reservations will be held for 15 minutes after the start of the reservation.

This resource is available free of charge to any UC-affiliated persons (faculty, staff, enrolled student) working on UC-related research or class projects that utilize spatial data (this does not include consulting work or any other for-profit work done by otherwise qualified persons).

Food and drink are not permitted in MIL.

For assistance or to reserve a computer, contact the MIL reference staff at milrefdesk [at] library [dot] ucsb [dot] edu or (805) 893-2779.

About computing in MIL

MIL has two Windows workstations. MIL does not back up the disk drives of these workstations. Users are responsible for backing up their data after each session. Disks may be erased at any time.  MIL staff can provide basic assistance, but many of our tools have a steep learning curve.  Our staff specializes in identifying data in our collection and online to help you get your work done.  We can also help you choose appropriate tools for spatial analysis.  See our services pages for more information about how MIL can serve your needs.

MIL also serves as UCSB's main pont of contact for Esri's ArcGIS suite of software, including access to Esri Virtual Campus courses.

MIL administers a campus GIS listserv.  See our GIS pages for additional information.
