On my way to New Orleans for ALA, I went to Galveston for a wedding.
Both cities were historically major ports of entry for Jews coming from Europe.
While most people find this surprising, even more surprising is the fact that
many of these immigrants settled and assimilated into rural southern towns.
By way of a serendipitous web search, I found & visited Port Gibson, Mississippi,
where Christian neighbors are trying to restore a 100 year old moorish style
synagogue that they have saved from demolition. They hope to preserve it as an
interpretive museum of community history.

After visiting in Atlanta, DC, NYC, and Boston, I got to relax on Cape Cod.
I left for home that same day that JFK Jr flew off, expecting to find conditions
as beautiful as pictured here. I am especially grateful to be safely back in Santa Barbara.
