27th Annual Nyholm Award Announced

The Nyholm Award ceremony was hosted by John Vasi on Sept 22nd. Cecily Johns presented the award to Sherry DeDecker, the twenty-seventh recipient of the Amy and Jens Nyholm Prize for Outstanding Librarianship. We quote from Sherry's nomination: "She has distinguished herself through diligence, enthusiasm, and dedication to the library and to the profession. As Chair of LAUC-SB's Task Force on Library Planning, Sherry has contributed greatly to the cohesion and cooperative attitude of her colleagues in working towards the development of the library's vision statements and goals.

Through her persistent organization, hard work, and effective leadership, she has brought together very diverse interests to create an atmosphere of cooperation and communication.

As LAUC-SB's Program Committee chair, Sherry has coordinated numerous, successful programs this year, including the library's annual conference, and has brought in many excellent speakers for the benefit of librarians and staff.

In addition, her work in her collections, Communication and U.S. Government Publications, has been a model of excellence. Through her well-developed, well-thought-out Webpages and guides, she has made it possible for reference librarians to very effectively provide help in these areas.

In addition, Sherry has shown leadership as a member of the University Librarian Search Committee. She has encouraged and scheduled numerous meetings with the chair and all members of the library (staff and librarians). She continues to provide feedback and information concerning this ongoing search."

Congratulations, Sherry, we appreciate all you do!
