Library CookieGram Sales Support United Way
"Show someone you care! Send a CookieGram to a co-worker!" was the cry last
month as chocolate chip cookies were sold and delivered to their recipients
just in time for Valentines Day. The annual campus-wide campaign to aid the
United Way was a giant success as people got into the spirit of sending cookies
all over the library. Coni Edick, who was responsible for
selling the CookieGrams in the Library, was one of UCSB's top fundraisers and
will be honored at a United Way celebration next month.

- Appeals Court Finds in Favor of AIP/APS in Gordon &
Breach Case
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Monday upheld Judge
Leonard B. Sand's August 1997 finding in favor of the American Institute
of Physics and the American Physical Society in the suit against them by
Gordon & Breach. The three-judge appeals panel agreed that the articles
published in AIP/APS journals by Henry Barschall on the costs of physics
journals were in fact accurate and did not therefore constitute false or
misleading advertising as was charged by Gordon & Breach. We are waiting
for the official press release from the AIP/APS which we will forward to
you as soon as we can.
