Here is the tip of the month from the Ergo Task Force. This month we are focusing on relaxation techniques to aid in stress/tension reduction resulting from a long day at the computer. Remember to take those rest breaks!
After
about 4 months of installation work, the new chiller unit for Davidson
Library has been started up. This large system produces chilled water that
runs through the air-handling system in Davidson and provides air conditioning
to the building. The new chiller is located in the basement of Davidson,
but it produces enough chilled water to cool four other buildings close
to the Library. Last fall, the construction work in our section of campus
installed insulated pipes between Davidson and the other buildings that
will share the chilled water.
The cooling from the new system can be felt in most areas of Davidson. The system still needs to be balanced and fine-tuned. Since Davidson is actually a combination of three different buildings built at different times, regulating and coordinating the air-handling systems is not an easy task. Facilities Management is working on balancing the system to produce a more even and comfortable environment. Your continued patience is appreciated during this period of adjustment.
The photos which follow show the magnitude of
the chiller as John Vasi and Carol Gibbens get an up-close
view on the day of start-up.

Just like the swallows' annual return to Capistrano, a late winter storm
appears to have become an annual event in recent Santa Barbara history.
Here are some of the scenes that early-morning hikers and commuters found:

A request for the Information Desk to send a gift to UCLA allowed several people at the Davidson Library to browse through the 1928 annual of what was to become UCLA. Click on this link to see what happened at the Southern Campus vs. Santa Barbara Teachers College football game.

Model Employee Models For Auto Ad
Jack Joshua is a man of many talents - the least of which includes
the ability to be noticed standing around a Toyota photo shoot in Santa Paula one day. Asked
if he would be willing to pose for an ad, Jack agreed. Imagine everyone's surprise when they
saw his picture at the top of this ad in Black Enterprise. Who knows where he'll turn
up next!
