Memo From Chancellor Yang

December 31, 1998

To the Campus Community:

Dear Colleagues:

We are extremely pleased with the appointment of Sarah M. Pritchard as our new University Librarian.  She brings to UCSB a wealth of broad-based experience in library administration, including her years at the Library of Congress, as Associate Executive Director at the Association of Research Libraries, and, since 1992, as the Director of Libraries at Smith College.

She received her B.A. in French, with high honors, from the University of Maryland, and two M.A. degrees; one in French Literature and another in Library Science, both at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  With her diverse background in French Literature and in Women's Studies, we look forward to her playing an active leadership role in the academic life of our campus.

We would like to thank the members of our Search Advisory Committee for the University Librarian for their dedicated and effective recruitment efforts. The membership of this committee, chaired by Professor Carol Lansing, is listed below.  We would also like to thank all of the librarians, staff, students, and faculty who provided input during the search process.

Sincerely yours,

Henry T. Yang
