Annual Holiday Celebration Has Pegasus Theme
This year's annual winter holiday celebration was a potluck
enjoyed by all who attended. Our annual white elephant gift exchange
was renamed because of the implementation of the new Pegasus this fall.
It seemed appropriate to honor our "winged friend" along with our accomplishments
in working with our new web-based integrated library system. Click
on the photo to see more.
This is a good time to remind library employees that updated documentation,
information on indexing and locations, and Pegasus Systems Group and Pegasus
Web Task Force minutes and tasklists can be found on our L-drive in the
Pegasus 2-2002 folder. Remember to send staff clients or web Pegasus
problems to pegasus@library.ucsb.edu
and suggestions and questions about the web pages to pegweb@library.ucsb.edu.

World Map Added to Library Wall
One
of the improvements added to the library during the Winter Recess was the
installation of a mural-sized world map in the central lobby in front
of the 8-story elevators of the Davidson Library. The map was carefully
hung and framed by our campus painters and carpenters and has created a
nice focal point for people walking by or waiting for the elevators. More

Nyholm Award for 2001 Announced
The Nyholm Award was presented to Catherine Nelson on
January 31st. Here is an excerpt from her nomination packet:
Catherine has made a number of significant
contributions this year. Within the library she has served on the
Pegasus 2 team for years and has been instrumental in finding and
correcting conversion problems. Last year she handled the transition
from Faxon to Ebsco while working on the Aleph implementation and systemwide
projects. She manages the Serials Department, a major achievement
both in terms of the size of the unit and its impact on the entire library.
Systemwide, Catherine served on the Melvyl 2 selection team and is a member
of the Preservation Advisory Group. Both the Melvyl and Pegasus implementations
meant that she had to meet many deadlines; nothing could be put off in
order to accommodate other priorities.
The
systemwide work on Melvyl 2 was an extensive project, involving lengthy
and detailed specification work, functionality analysis, consultation with
numerous constituencies, review of vendor bids and more. Catherine's
work will benefit users throughout the state and we congratulate and thank
her for her achievements! (Click here or on
the photo to see more.)
The Amy and Jens Nyholm Award is presented annually to the UCSB librarian
who has made an outstanding contribution to librarianship during the past
year, "be it excellence of performance, catalizing influence, or some other
act of distinction." The Nyholm Award, is now funded by a permanent
endowment established this fall by the estates of the late Ada Wood and
(originally) Jens & Amy Nyholm.
