Sal Guerena of Special Collections, and Edward Erazo, of Florida Atlantic University, have co-authored an exhaustive article entitled Latinos and Libraries that will appear in the Summer 2000 issue of Library Trends.
This is a special edition "Diversity" issue that aims to be the first place one would go for a history of library services to ethnic groups.Sal has also compiled and edited Library Services to Latinos: An Anthology (McFarland, 2000). Library Services to Latinos provides some effective strategies in service. It uses selected case studies to demonstrate client-centered innovations, whether they involve the organizing of Spanish-language collections, meeting the needs of children, or examining developments in electronic resources. The book also advances the dialog about some of the pressing professional issues of relevance to Latino librarians such as leadership development, recruitment and mentorship.
Carol Gibbens reports on a new program that will provide 24-hour reference service as the days move through the time zones.
Gary Colmenar reports on one discussion group concerned with the social, cultural, and economic conditions affecting small and independent presses.
Earlier this month, our University Librarian took part in the History of Science Colloquium Series. Read about her "informal seminar" HERE.Back to the top
