effort of the ten campuses of the University of California designed to
enable the University of California's libraries to continue to meet the
informational needs of University of California faculty and students in
the 21st century.
Responsibilities: The Shared Content Analyst is a major participant in building shared digital collections for the University. The primary activities of this position are to negotiate, on behalf of the entire university system, with vendors of scholarly digital content over a wide range of issues--business models, technical aspects, and other terms--and to facilitate collaborative investments by the 10 campuses through communication with and support of CDL advisory groups and campus collection development officers. The Shared Content Analyst will research background information and produce written summaries that analyze options for resources in specific disciplines, alternative sources for proprietary products, and unique scholarly products. The selected individual will maintain ongoing communication with approximately 100 vendors. The Shared Content Analyst is responsible for development and maintenance of an extensive and detailed public information program on Shared Content for UC campuses, Berkeley and Livermore National Laboratories, and CDL staff. The selected individual will also provide guidance to UC campus librarians who are engaged in multi-campus licensing initiatives. The Shared Content Analyst will serve as the coordinator of digital content integration within CDL. S/he will provide leadership to implement new resources and changes in existing resources and will identify areas where clear procedures would increase efficiency. Qualifications: MLIS or equivalent and relevant experience in libraries or information industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of scholarly content, both print and digital, and its use in academic settings. Demonstrated research and analytical ability. Proven negotiating skills with the ability to develop and maintain productive business relationships with database developers, aggregators, publishers, and other vendors. Ability to develop and maintain an extensive, detailed, public information program. Excellent organizational skills. Attention to detail with the capacity to think strategically. Superior written and verbal communication skills, including clarity, diplomacy, and presentation ability. Ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a service-oriented team environment. Ability to travel occasionally by plane and for multiple days, including some weekends. Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated experience coordinating the integration of digital content. Proven ability to facilitate and communicate collaborative investments to diverse audiences.
