An interchange for cultural and intellectual ideas, the library at UC Santa Barbara is the physical and symbolic crossroads of campus. Here the past collides with the future daily. The library is an active research lab for scholars to both look back and look forward into new methods and new knowledge.
This is a historical moment for the library at UC Santa Barbara. More than the renovation of an outdated building, we are embarking upon the reinvention of what the library can and aspires to be. While continuing to ensure unencumbered access to the intellectual record, we are seizing our role as partners to interdisciplinary learning, anticipating and adapting to the changing needs of students and faculty. Proponents of open access, we are empowering researchers to share information with the world. As information experts, our librarians are training scholars to be more savvy in an increasingly complex digital world. Serving the broader community as a cultural center, we are presenting programs for the free exchange of ideas.
UC Santa Barbara’s reputation as a top-rated university continues to grow. Similarly, the library continues to distinguish itself as a leader in transforming, preserving, and making accessible unique materials. We also endeavor to translate the changing and diverse research needs of our campus into innovative and effective services and information experiences.
I invite you who share our passion for lifelong learning to join the library in achieving its mission—to enable the exploration and collaboration of scholars in their intellectual engagement with the world of ideas and in the creation of knowledge. Your partnership is essential in helping us reinvent a library for the future.
