Committee on Professional Development (CPD)
Annual Report 1997-1998
The Committee on Professional Development (CPD) oversees professional
travel and research by LAUC-SB members.
For 1997-1998, CPD members were:
Jim Markham (Chair), Nerea Llamas (Chair-Elect), Chuck Huber, Carol Doyle.
Travel:
Funding available for LAUC-SB travel was based on a beginning list of 35
librarians. Of these, four left UCSB before the end of the fiscal year,
three of them without spending any funds. Of the remaining 31 librarians,
29 traveled and 22 used all their available funds. At the end of the
fiscal year, funds remaining from librarians who had not used their total
allotment were distributed equally to all those who had not yet been
reimbursed for professional travel undertaken in June.
During the year UCSB raised the official allowance for mileage twice, and
raised the amount allowed for meals on per diem reimbursements. CPD rules
for per diem eligibility remained the same, but travelers were now allowed
the option of using all their allowance for per diem or
travel/registration, or a combination of both.
Research:
There were two calls for LAUC research proposals. None were submitted from
UCSB, but the local CPD committee evaluated statewide proposals, and Chuck
Huber attended two LAUC statewide research meetings to review procedures
and consider applications.
Web Page:
For the first time, CPD produced its own web page,
http://www.library.ucsb.edu/lauc/cpd.html
which provided all LAUC-SB members with up-to-date information and answers to questions
about professional travel and research.
