Committee on Professional Development (CPD)
Annual Report 1995-1996

During FY 95/96 the committee on professional development was able to distribute LAUC funds (and the supplemental from the University Librarian) to 27 LAUC members for Professional Development travel. Because FY 96/97 includes two summer ALA conferences, the committee was able to roll over unexpended funds from the previous year, and, receive extra funding from the University librarian so that for FY 96/97 each librarian will have $500.00 for travel and registration and up to three per diems, versus the usual $300.00 for travel and up to three per diems. Usually funds are not rolled over and are expended, however, the unusual scheduling of conferences for FY 96/97 made the roll over necessary.

Locally there were no LAUC research proposals submitted, however, the local committee and state committee did review two proposals on the initial call and four more on the second call. Of the six total, four were funded, and, a call was made to previous year applicants to request supplemental funding if needed to complete their projects, and these received supplemental funding as well. The timetable was tweaked last year to accomodate Berkeley, which follows semesters, while all the other campuses are on quarters, and after the experiment, the timetable went back to one based on quarters.
