Committee on Professional Development (CPD)
Annual Report 2004-2005
Some updating of CPD webpage:
Change in cents per mile for gasoline
More explicit instructions for reserving a university vehicle
Unused MOU mandated funds were redistributed among all LAUC-SB unit members who had gone over their total original allocations. Expenditure reporting procedures between the CPD chair and Mary Kohler, which were set in place by the previous committee, resulted in much more accurate accounting and allowed for a relatively easy process of redistributing the funds.
In response to a mandate given by the previous executive board to look into guidelines for using professional development funds for research purposes, the committee surveyed the statewide LAUC and local LAUC practices. Statewide guidelines were not found to be particularly useful. Information gathered from the six individual campus LAUC groups which do use professional development funds for research purposes is appropriate. The project will probably continue into the coming year as the next step involves discussion with the University Librarian, in particular, concerning non-MOU funding.
Reviewed and made recommendations on research grant proposals submitted for the statewide LAUC research grants. The committee expressed concern that grantees were not held accountable for reporting on the use of the funds. This apparently was of concern to other groups and the LAUC Research and Professional Development Committee, as well. As a result, the R& PD has instituted an “End of Funding Period Report” form which is going into effect immediately.
