Committee on Professional Development (CPD)
Annual Report 2003-2004

Redesigned and rewrote CPD web page to reflect new professional development fund guidelines, travel policies, and procedures.

1. Replaced traditional /tiered funding/ with a simplified version: professional development funds are now composed of an annual base allocation as mandated by the MOU plus the UL's additional, discretionary funding, to be used for any professional development activity that falls within the MOU and UC guidelines. Librarians do not have to serve on a committee or moderate a panel or in any other way 'earn' this money. Any unused portion of the $600 base can be redistributed to covered librarians at the end of the fiscal year for professional development expenses.

2. Clarified travel guidelines to indicate that funds may be used for registration to conferences and workshops, transportation, lodging, meals and incidental expenses. Earlier versions of the guidelines did not specify lodging, for example.

3. Reorganized and updated CPD web page; added link to the new UCLA Travel Center.

4. Rewrote 'Librarian Request for Leave and Estimated Travel Expenses' online form. The most obvious change is that the new form no longer asks for documentation of the level of participation at a given event. In accordance with #1 above, it is no longer relevant whether a covered librarian is chairing a committee or putting on a poster session or doing any of the other things that needed to be specified on the earlier form
