The Program Committee decided to arrange a series of programs inviting
Deans and various chairs academic committees to talk about issues and
initiatives that may affect the library and its mission to the university.
The programs were well attended, however due to the busy school year the
committee was not able to arrange meetings with the remaining Deans on
campus.
The Program Committee organized the following events in 2004-05.
Program with Melvin Oliver, Dean of Social Sciences
(Feb 25) Mary Cheadle Room
Oliver, the new Dean of Social Sciences came and made a presentation to
the library about his plans. The title of his presentation is called,
"Introducing a New Vision for the Social Sciences at UCSB".
Program with Celine Parrenas Shimizu, Assistant Professor in the
Asian American Studies Department (March 7) Mary Cheadle Room
Parrenas Shimizu talked about her forthcoming book and her research
project on pornography, cinema, and Asian American women
Program with Bruce Tiffney, Chair of the Committee on Library,
Information, and Instruction Resources and Phil Walker, Chair of the Ad
hoc Committee on Scholarly Communication, (May 4), Mary Cheadle Room
Tiffney and Walker talked about the work of their committees and
collaborations with the library.
Program with Martin Moskovitz, Dean of Mathematical, Life and
Physical Sciences, (Aug 10), Mary Cheadle Room
Moskovitz spoke about new programs, emerging research centers, campus
initiatives, and other topics of mutual interest.
