LAUC Santa Barbara
Executive Board meeting
December 13, 1995
Present: Patrick Dawson, Andrea Duda, Adan Griego, Catherine Nelson,
Rosemary Meszaros, Beverly Ryan, Lucia Snowhill.
1. Minutes of the last meeting were approved.
2. Andrea reported on two recent LAUC Executive Board meetings. Minutes
for both will be posted on Infosurf.
October 13 meeting highlights:
LAUC is concerned that Library Council only meets twice and year
and has canceled a meeting this year. This reduces LAUC input.
A comparative salary survey for librarians is being done by UCOP,
using the same 8 institutions as used for faculty, plus the CSU. The data will
be out around the end of the year.
There have been discussions about where and for how long local
LAUC archives should be kept. The decision was to retain them locally and
provide recommendations on what to keep and how long.
Committee reports and campus updates were provided.
December 8 meeting highlights:
Budget was discussed.
Update on salary survey-data will go to vice chancellors and ULs,
may be sent to LAUC. No changes in the APM are planned.
The President will soon issue an interim policy on Affirmative Action
for employment and contracts. Changes in admissions are not implemented
until January 1997.
Benefits for domestic partners proposal may go to regents and the
governor, or be implemented at the campus level.
The Election Calendar was distributed. An election committee for
local LAUC elections must be appointed by April 26.
There was discussion of the recent bylaws amendment election and
the distribution of ballots via email. There are concerns about privacy and
authentication.
The Spring Assembly will be May 13-14, 9:30 to 5:00 at Irvine.
3. Senate Library Committee report
The no fines policy was adopted.
Removal of bookdrops was approved.
Recall fine policies were discussed. No changes will be made until
more information is gathered.
4. CAP - CAP activity not yet underway

Leftover travel funds can now be rolled over to the next year.
UCSB was/will be well represented at CLA and ALA Midwinter.
Most of the Research Committee work is being done by email. They
will meet in March in Oakland or Berkeley.
7. Program Committee
Monthly programs are planned, including another travel program in
Jan. and a discussion of student demographics in Feb.
The LAUC conference will be April 26, 1996. 6 proposals have been
received so far. "Things are gelling."
8. Meeting with Joe Boisse and the executive board
Try for the week of Jan. 8
Possible topics: bifurcation, budget, activities of other departments
9. General membership meeting, Jan. 16, 3 pm
