f. John Vasi gave a brief explanation of Brian Kresin's responsibilities.
He will be the development officer for both the library and the College
of Creative Studies. His main role as development officer for the
library is to seek funding for a broad range of library needs.
1. Brian Kresin:
"Thrilled to be working at UCSB!" Kresin gave a brief introduction about
his education and work experience. Brian came from the University of Kansas. He received a Bachelor's Degree
in Political Science and a Masters in Higher Education. While at the
University of Kansas he was the Director of Advancement in the School of
Education where he was involved in capital fund raising for the School of
Education building.
As the development officer for the library he envisions his role to be that
of matching donors' particular interests to the specific needs of the
library. He sees this process as similar to a jigsaw puzzle. Since
libraries do not have their own alumni, he believes that outreach becomes
an integral part of his mission. In this sense, he welcomes the library's
participation in helping him identify potential donors. But it is imperative
that any action towards securing donors needs to be coordinated with Kresin
and other development officers. Not to do so could risk losing potential
donors. Essentially, we do not want to approach potential donors that are
already in negotiation with another development officer.
His main focus will be on gifts $25,000 or more because other development
officers handle contributions of lesser amount. However, he would like
to be informed of donations to the library of dollar amounts less than
$25,000 as well. Funding for the library is a donor-driven task. His
approach is to identify the different needs of the library and match
these needs with potential donors that would have an interest in giving
financial support. Examples of specific projects that could attract
donors are:
The Ethnic and Gender Studies Library
The American Religions Collections
Preservation projects on specific collections
Scholarships
