Minutes of the LAUC-SB Business Meeting
November 5, 1998

Meeting convened at 9:00 am

Announcements:  (Janet Martorana)





a.  Report on LAUC-Exec meeting with new EVC Ilene Nagel.  She is receptive 

to and understands the role of LAUC in the library.  She is the acting UL and

has given Library Executive Committee the authority on the hiring librarian 

positions. R. Tobin has an advisory role to EVC Nagel.  The meeting with EVC 

Nagel has clarified the lines of authority and communication within the 

library.  This also means that the library has a direct line of communication

with EVC Nagel regarding issues concerning the library.



Action:  J. Martorana will request a meeting between LAUC-SB and EVC Nagel.



b.  There will be regular meetings with LEC and LAUC-SB Exec Committee



c. The Information and Instructional Technology Center (IITC) is going as 

planned.  LAUC representatives are:



Steering Committee: Janet Martorana

Research Facilities: Beverly Ryan

Teaching Facilities: Sylvia Curtis

Library Facilities: Lucia Snowhill



d.  P. Dawson has sent the technology needs request list to John Vasi from 

    Reference Services.



e.  Program Committee scheduled event on November 18, 1998.  Beverlee French 

    from the California Digital Library (CDL) will give an update of CDL.



f.  Next LAUC-SB meeting December 4, 1998 @10:00am



g.  Second floor conference room will get a new marker board.  Room 1414C  

    will get one also.



1.   University Librarian Search Update.



As mentioned previously there is a strong candidate pool beginning with the 

first candidate from last week.  The first candidate left more articles and 

papers for us to read.  It was also suggested that comments should not be 

transmitted through email about the UL candidates since these are not 

protected in a court of law.



The following dates are scheduled for the remaining candidates:



November 12-13

November 19-20

November 23-24

November 30 - December 1

December 3 -4



Two of the University Librarian candidates are:

Ross Atkinson (Cornell University)

Brian Schottlaender (UCLA)



Encourage faculty members to attend these meetings and presentations

Some discussion about making some changes to the list of questions that will 

be asked of the candidates in the meeting with LAUC-SB members.



Action:  S. DeDecker will ask members to submit questions
