Librarians Association of the University of California at Santa Barbara
Minutes of the LAUC-SB Business Meeting
June 4, 1998
The LAUC-SB Executive Committee will meet June 5th with EVC Crawford and
Dr. Tobin with questions regarding the status of the search for a new
Library Director and interim responsibilities.
CPD will disburse additional travel funds by the end of the fiscal year.
The systemwide ballot was distributed. The local ballot will be
disseminated today. The deadline for voting is extended to June 18th.
Local nominations, as reflected on the ballot, were announced.
133 persons attended the LAUC-SB/LAMA program on customer service
excellence. Over $2,000 was taken in; charges for the facility and food
must be subtracted. The Friends administer registration and collect
registration fees, which are deposited to that account. Discussion took
place regarding the disposition of earnings, and whether we can ask
Friends for permission to use money from this and possibly previous
conferences for a project agreed upon by LAUC membership. After the final
budget figures for this confernece are in, Sherry Dedecker will ask Cecily
Johns for advice on how to proceed with requesting use of the conference
money. Suggested projects are furnishing the second floor conference
room, furnishing the staff room, adding to the travel budget or the
institution of an endowment for a LAUC-SB scholarship award. An ensuing
conversation regarded LAUC-SB's relationship with the Friend's group.
Patrick Dawson and Sylvelin Edgerton will contact the Friends to inquire
about initiating an ongoing dialog between this group and LAUC.
The main agenda item was discussion of the draft, "Systemwide Libraries'
Advisory Structure, 1998 - 2001." Lucia Snowhill, as LAUC President,
solicited and was provided comment for inclusion in the LAUC system-wide
response. LAUC-SB recommended appointment of LAUC representatives to the
all-campus groups, in addition to the recommended appointment to SOPAG,
and task forces/special groups, as appropriate.
