LAUC-SB Business Meeting

1. Approval of the minutes: Minutes of the February 1 business meeting were approved.
2. Committee reports
CPD (Lueck) Your travel money from the current fiscal year, 1999-2000, may be carried over to the next fiscal year since the annual ALA conference is in July 2000.
CAAR (LLamas)
Arts: Final interview is Tuesday, February 29.
Asian American: Sherry DeDecker will chair the search committee.
CAAR submitted a slate of 5 names for the search committee.
Near East: Catherine Nelson will chair the search committee.
CAAR submitted a slate of 5 names for additional search committee members.
LEC named the search committee members in a recent meeting, although Committee
members had not yet been notified (Sarah). We will advertise the position
after we know the results of the grant application for the Near East and
Islamic Studies National Resource Center. We may wait until the next fiscal
year if they do not receive the grant (Sarah).
Fellow: The field has been narrowed to four. Telephone interviews
are being conducted to narrow the list.
AUL: Additional references are being checked for new candidates.
CAP (Hayman) CAP will meet in March to draw a list of names to forward to Detrice Bankhead as a pool for academic review committees.
Program (Curtis) Committee is in the process of scheduling a date for the program with librarians from UCSB, SBCC, Westmont, SB Public, Fielding and the SB Historical Society. A tour of Career and Counseling Services is being planned. A tour of the Advanced Technology Laboratory and the Language Laboratory is scheduled for March 10 at 8:30 a.m.. Also in the future is a trip to the Visual Resource Collection in the department of History of Art and Architecture. Jackie Spafford is the curator.
3. Welcoming, Orienting and Mentoring Task Force (W.O.M.) Sandy Lewis introduced a proposal to amend the LAUC-SB bylaws by making W.O.M. a subcommittee of CAAR. After discussion and changes, the proposal was approved. The approved proposal reads, "CAAR will appoint a subcommittee to maintain a program to welcome, orient and mentor librarians."
4. Other updates and reports
Discussion on LAUC's role with the union regarding the inclusion of the APM in the negotiation process.
For a good background on the history of LAUC, Sally has a copy of the first edition of LAUC: the first 25 years.
Academic Senate Committee on the Library (Martorana) Janet distributed a copy of the Committee's resolution to "push the University of California Systemwide Administration to retreat from the stance of "no new library buildings" and permit this campus, and others in the UC system, to place Library buildings on campus 5 year plans as each campus deems necessary." LAUC-SB has endorsed this proposal.
Academic Senate Affirmative Action Committee (Dai) The committee is working on a survey to send to former minority faculties who left UCSB in the last 5-years (including retirements). The intention is to make recommendations to the Academic Senate and the administration for any needed changes in the ways UCSB handles retention issues, etc.
Faculty Legislature Meeting (Weimer) The 2000-01 Budget Update
was distributed in the paper copy of the minutes of this meeting, February
