Minutes of the LAUC-SB Executive Board Meeting, January 22, 1998


     HOPS: Patrick Dawson reported on the HOPS retreat in Riverside.

 Principles and plans for action regarding public services in the digital

 environment will be referred to public service units on each campus for

 review and comment.



     Academic Senate Library Committee: Patrick reported on the most

 recent meeting.  A faculty representative to the library's Long Range

 Planning Committee will be appointed by the Faculty Senate Committee on

 Committees.  A letter drafted by Bruce Tiffney has been sent to the

 Chancellor regarding the next potential serials cut.  50 new PCs have been

 funded from Open Access for library public service net access .

 **Last sentence:  50 new PCs have been funded with money made available

 from systemwide to campuses for support of technology.  UCSB decided to

 use it for "open access" and funded the additional library public service

 computers.

   Mission statement: LAUC membership will be asked to review the     

 library's mission statement prior to the next membership meeting on

 February 20th at 10 a.m., where the mission statement and proposed goals

 will be reviewed.  Sherrie Dedecker will chair a LAUC-SB task force to

 forward recommendations to the library's Long Range Planning Committee.



 **Report from CAAR

 Status of professional recruitments: A short list has been

 recommended for the Music Librarian recruitment; the next step is

 soliciting letters of reference.  A faculty member (who?) has been

 appointed to this selection committee.  Interviews are taking place for

 the position of Curator of Performing Arts Collections.    



 **A faculty member, William Prizer, Chair of the Music Department, had

 been invited to this selection committee and is participating in an

 advisory capacity.  Interviews . . .



 LAUC-SB Task Force on Capital Planning:  Task force members will

 be solicited.



 Report from CPD: Jim Markam is working with Andrea Duda to post

 travel guidelines linked to the LAUC-SB home page (Bethany will not post

 the same). Currently, eleven persons have exhausted travel funds; six

 haven't yet travelled.  Several research proposals are being reviewed by

 systemwide LAUC. Report from CAP: The Committee is gearing up for academic review.       

 It will soon meet to consider solicited input regarding the process.
