Minutes of the LAUC-SB Executive Committee Meeting
April 23, 2004

Present: Cathy Chiu, Eric Forte, Mary Larsgaard, Janet Martorana, Catherine Nelson

1. Minutes
The minutes of the previous LAUC-SB Executive Committee meeting were amended and approved with the following revision:
....a Word template was needed "for"... delete "fore"
… "Cathy Chiu suggested"... change to "We agreed"


2. Staff Celebration Luncheon

Eric will be on vacation. Other Program Committee members, Jane, Sylvia, and Ellen, will be in charge. Janet will coordinate the food. Not all sign-up envelopes have been returned to Eric. Eric will collect them by Monday afternoon and work with Janet on food and other miscellaneous arrangements.


3. Travel documents

CPD has developed a new travel form. CPD Chair Jane was teaching an instruction class. We made some suggestions, including adding a ground transportation and parking line and a notes line under "Funding Requested".
The travel guideline was reviewed. We suggested two changes, one typo and one added statement in the beginning of the document: "The professional development funds can be used for travel as well as research. Below is the guideline for travel." Cathy will deliver the suggestions to Jane.


4. LAUC Election

Based on the LAUC election calendar, the divisional election committee should be formed before May 1. Election day is June 10 and the results of the election should be sent to LAUC Secretary by June 13.
Eric, as Vice Chair/Chair-elect, will chair the nomination/election committee. The LAUC-SB Secretary Sal will be a member of the committee. Eric will recruit two more members. The Committee will send out a call for volunteers for the following positions:
Local: LAUC-SB Vice Chair/Chair-elect, CAP Chair, CAAR Chair, CPD Vice Chair/Chair-elect.
Systemwide:
LAUC Committee on Committees, Rules and Jurisdiction; Committee on Diversity;
Committee on Library Plans and Policies; Research and Professional Development Committee
& Representatives to University Librarian Advisory Committees: SOPAG, CDC, and HOPS.

The nomination committee will present the slate of candidates to LAUC members at the membership meeting. The ballots including statewide as well as local candidates for office will be distributed to members at least 14 days prior to June 10.


5. LAUC Award Survey

Linda Kennedy sent out the Award Survey last week. Members were encouraged to fill out the survey and return it to the Award Committee Chair.


6. Membership Meeting

We will hold a membership in the week of May 20. Tentative agenda items include:
1. UL Report on state of the library and the strategic planning
2. LAUC Spring Assembly Updates
3. LAUC-SB Travel Guideline and Travel Forms
4. LAUC Election
