Minutes of the LAUC-SB Executive Committee Meeting
June 4, 2001
Davidson Library, 2nd floor conference room
Present: Sylvia Curtis, Sherry DeDecker, Janet Martorana, Eunice Schroeder.
Andrea Duda, Carol Gibbens, and Bev Ryan sent regrets.
The meeting convened at 3:30 p.m.
Minutes from the Executive Committee meeting on 5 May were approved
with corrections and will be posted to the Web. Emendations were suggested
for the minutes from the 14 May meeting. Eunice will incorporate them and
send the revised minutes to the committee for comment.
There was discussion of the Senate Library Committee's letter of 4 May
to Judson King regarding funding for library capital projects. The letter
was penned by Sarah Cline and sent by her to UCOL for submission to the
Academic Council and ultimately to Provost King.
The next topic of discussion was the Academic Senate Task Force on General
Education, whose chair, Muriel Zimmerman, presented a report to the Faculty
Legislature at its most recent meeting (31 May). It was decided that Zimmerman
be invited to meet with LAUC-SB so that the membership can learn more about
the activities of the task force and discuss issues regarding information literacy, library instruction, and general education.
Also discussed was the issue of librarian representation in the new
Senate structure as currently being studied by the Task Force on Academic
Senate Reorganization. The productive contributions of librarians on the
various senate committees in past years were reviewed so that these examples
might be put before the Senate Library Committee on Thursday (6/7) as justification
for a continued librarian role in the new structure.
The next topic raised was non-Senate Academic Representatives. Of the
six slots for next year, two are currently listed as TBA. Sylvia will contact
Claudia Chapman to ascertain the present status of these slots.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
