Minutes of the LAUC-SB Executive Committee Meeting
May 7, 2001
Davidson Library, 2nd floor conference room
Present: Sylvia Curtis, Sherry DeDecker, Janet Martorana, Bev Ryan,
and Eunice Schroeder. Carol Gibbens and Andrea Duda sent regrets.
The meeting convened at 4 p.m.
The staff pizza party was the first topic, with discussion focusing
on how everyone can be served effectively given the constraints of available
funds and healthy appetites; this year we ran out of pizza by about 12:45,
so there was none left for those who came to the party in the third shift.
Various options were discussed, including asking for higher contributions,
limiting the number of pizza slices per person, including another food
option such as pasta and/or garlic bread, modifying the party timetable,
etc.
Statewide LAUC elections were next on the agenda. Possible UCSB nominees
were discussed.
The upcoming meeting (May 14) of the LAUC-SB Executive Board with the
UL was discussed. The topic will be mentoring, and discussion focused on
many issues relating to effective implementation of mentoring at all levels
in the library, including: the purpose and value of mentoring, and a possible
written statement articulating this; what mentoring can encompass; the
relationship of mentoring to the review process; the respective roles of
LAUC, line supervisor, AULs, collection coordinators, etc.; mentoring of
staff employees.
The last major topic was the draft Senate resolution on the library
capital project. Some possible changes to the draft were agreed on and
will be communicated to the Senate Library Committee by Eunice and Sylvia,
who are members of the committee.
The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
