Minutes of the LAUC-SB Executive Committee Meeting
December 11, 2000
Davidson Library, 2nd floor conference room
Present: Sylvia Curtis, Andrea Duda, Janet Martorana, Bev Ryan, Eunice Schroeder.
Sherry DeDecker and Carol Gibbens sent regrets.
The meeting convened at 3:30 p.m.
The board discussed the visit of Cathy Palmer, LAUC president, to UCSB
on Dec. 15. Issues that might productively be discussed were identified,
including the role of the professional academic librarian on campus, LAUC's
advisory role, and the demographics of librarians. Palmer will meet with
LAUC-SB membership, the Executive Board, and the UL.
LAUC-SB membership meetings for 2000-2001 will be scheduled for the
second Friday of every month, except for January 2001, when the membership
meeting will be on the third Friday (19 Jan.). There will be a membership
meeting this Thursday, 14 Dec. Sylvia has set up a CS&T agenda for
LAUC-SB, and all committee meetings should be entered therein.
Sylvia distributed a draft of 2000-2001 charges to LAUC-SB committees
and discussion followed. Sylvia mentioned the possibility of a LAUC-SB
assembly in the spring, similar to statewide assembly but local only. Location
and programming possibilities were discussed. One possibility is the impact
of an expanded summer session on the setting of priorities and balancing
of workloads.
The proposed changes in the statewide LAUC bylaws were discussed. LAUC-SB
will need a committee to look at how these changes might necessitate parallel
changes in our division bylaws.
Committee Reports
Program Committee. Bev Ryan proposed 26 Jan. 2001 as a date for a LAUC-SB
program that would feature Cecily Johns discussing her work on the systemwide
Collection Management Initiative. The committee is also considering other
programming possibilities for this year such as a series on current UCSB
research projects on diversity.
Bev will ask for LAUC-SB volunteers to help with setup for the library
Holiday Party.
The Executive Board will meet again on 18 Dec. 2000.
The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
