Minutes of the LAUC-SB Executive Committee Meeting
June 10, 1999
Present: Sherry DeDecker (Chair), Janet Martorana (Vice Chair/Chair-Elect),
Sylvia Curtis, Patrick Dawson, Nerea Llamas, Gary Colmenar (Secretary), and
Sarah Pritchard, University Librarian.
The meeting convened at 9:00 a.m.
Agenda
The LAUC-SB Executive Committee invited S. Pritchard to meet with them to
learn about her ideas about Library issues and working with LAUC-SB.
1. Meetings with the LEC:
S. Pritchard is receptive to continue the Library Executive Committee/LAUC-SB
Executive Committee meetings that have been effective in creating good
communication and working relationship between librarians and the library
administration. She suggested the two groups meet on a monthly basis.
She would like to establish a formal structure that would have
representations from librarians and staff. She envisions this group as one
of the channels to bring information to the library and be involved in the
planning and decision-making process in the library like computer-use policy,
space problems, etc.
2. Library and the campus:
S. Pritchard suggested different ways to make us and the library more visible
on campus. We need to maintain and expand communication with departments
through our liaisons. Expand and improve the library newsletter both the
print and the electronic formats to include new resources and library events.
Sponsor more literary and library-related events. Volunteering in campus
events and projects is another way to make ourselves more involved in the
campus community. One suggestion is to bring back the "new book" section.
S. Pritchard mentioned there was good news from UCOP. The library building
stayed on the five-year plan.
We would like to maintain our good relationship with Friends of the Library
who have been one of our strong supporters. The hiring of an assistant to
B.Kresin would greatly help his work in library development.
3. LAUC-SB Professional Development
S. Pritchard would look into setting aside a budget for professional
development and training for the whole library.
4. Library Fellowship
S. Pritchard thinks that the program is an important one and would like to
see it continue. However, she would like to know more about it and plans to
talk to D. Bankhead.
5. Additional comments
S. Pritchard will appoint a committee to work on computer guidelines for the
library.
Action: S. DeDecker will forward names of volunteers who responded to the
LAUC-SB call for interested persons to work on this issue.
S. Pritchard would like to hear of any program ideas that we have.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
