Agenda for the LAUC-SB Executive Committee Meeting
October 5, 2004

LAUC Exec meeting with Sarah, agenda (10/5/2004, 3PM, Sarah's office):

1- coming year committee business:

CPD- will we continue with the travel funding established last year?

CAAR- speculation on librarian hiring for the coming year? Anything beyond the fellow? History Librarian?

CAP- Sarah's take on LAUC's role in the Nyholm process?

Program- The Program Committee is planning to invite several people on campus at different times during the year. Tentative list:

Bruce Tiffney, Vice-Chair of Council on Research and Instructional Resources

Phil Walker, Chair of Scholarly Communication (new committee)

Melvin Olvier, New Dean of the Division of Social Sciences

Martin Moskovits, Dean of Mathematical Life and Physical Sciences

Later in the year we would like to hold a workshop with library professionals working at different institutions in the area including CSU Channel Islands. The topic is yet to be determined.

2- LAUC issues:

Not much going on at the statewide level at this moment besides preparing for the programs at Fall Assembly. Terry Huwe does want to stay away from personnel-type issues except if necessary (ie, not a year to discuss review, the distinguished step, etc.), and would like to see LAUC produce some substantive work on issues, specfically Copyright/Fair Use, and Privacy. Would like to continue/broaden LAUC's advisory role.

3- How can LAUC become more effective in our advisory capacity at Santa Barbara, beyond personnel issues?
