Staff Appreciation Celebration Planning Guide
During the annual UCSB Staff Appreciation Week (usually in late April/early May), LAUC-SB hosts a celebration for library staff and student employees.
One month in advance:
The Program Chair/LAUC-SB Chair-Elect has traditionally been responsible for forming a committee (from the Program Committee, LAUC-SB Executive Committee, and other LAUC-SB members) to coordinate the event. Responsibilities are assigned for:
- Food: The pizza party of years past has been deemed too cost-prohibitive. Instead, more recently, LAUC-SB has thrown a potluck luncheon. LAUC-SB members may contribute a main dish, salad or appetizer, or a donation to be used toward the purchase of food. In recent years, food--as well as two half-sheet cakes for dessert--has been purchased at Costco.
- Drinks: punch and two big bags of ice
- Supplies: check 2nd floor conference room closet for paper plates, napkins, plasticware, cups, etc.; additional supplies may be purchased at Costco if necessary
- Set-up
- Clean-up
All LAUC-SB members are asked to contribute either cash (suggested donation: $20) or an equivalent dish to the party, as well as to volunteer to help with preparations.
The Program Chair/LAUC-SB Chair-Elect circulates envelops with sign-up sheets among the LAUC-SB members in order to collect donations.
Historically, the event has been sponsored by voluntary donations from LAUC-SB members, which does not preclude asking the administration to contribute additional funding.
Expected attendance: Plan for an estimated 100-125 people.
Note on setting the date and time of the party: Consult the schedule of Staff Appreciation Week events, as well as the University Librarian's schedule, for conflicts.
One week in advance:
Publicity: Send e-mail announcement to library listserv.
