Three new databases recently added to the library’s collection give researchers access to a wealth of online digitized images.
AMICO Library
AMICO, or the Art Museum Image Consortium, is a collection of works owned by consortium
members. Member museums currently include institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County
Museum of Art, and the J. Paul Getty Museum. In addition to a digital image, the database also includes
information about the work. The type of provenance information included varies depending upon the institution that owns the artwork. In all, AMICO currently contains over 100,000 works. While coverage is not limited to a specific type of art, the collection contents are heaviest in 19th and 20th century European and American art.
Saskia Art Images
Many art educators are familiar with Saskia, a commercial image vendor that has sold slide sets of art images for some time. The digitized Saskia Art Images collection allows users to access these images via the World Wide Web. Basic information about each work of art is included in the database. This collection currently contains over 26,000 works, with an emphasis on the history of western art. |

Museums & Online Archive of
California Images (MOAC)
MOAC gives access to cultural collections held by museums, archives, and libraries within the state of California. The 11 member institutions include several that are part of the University of California system. This collection contains over 35,000 images.
All three of these databases use the Insight software developed by Luna Imaging, Inc. In addition to the web interface, on-campus users can download a JAVA-client version that allows additional
functionality as well as cross-database searching capabilities. The JAVA-client also provides
access to additional image databases that are available elsewhere on the Web.
