Results of Library Employee Meetings on Vision and Goals Statements For
Library Long Range Plan
The material below from last week's meetings has three components:
- The six vision statements are repeated, numbered 1-6.
- Under each vision statement are the "goals" determined by the group of Library
employees who attended that session. Goals developed by the gropus are numbered 1A, 1B,
etc.
- Following the "Goals" are "Suggestions". The suggestions are all of the comments
recorded by the groups.
The Long Range Planning Steering Committee will review this information and put together a
draft of the Long Range Plan which includes Goals for each of the Vision Statements. That
draft will be placed on the Web for review and comment by all employees. What you see
below has not been edited.
Vision Statement #1
Develop an open collegial environment among library personnel which
encourages diversity, creativity, and organizational flexibility.
Goals:
- 1A. Communication:
- 1. Solicit and take seriously the diverse opinions of all employees
- 2. Disseminate information in a timely and respectful manner and encourage feedback
- 3. Humor and energy
- 1B. Job Quality
- 1. Clearly defined and reasonable performance expectations and responsibilities
- 2. Encourage and equitably reward productivity and collaboration
- 3. Support continuing training and education
- 4. Job flexibility
- 1C. Organizational flexibility
- 1. Sufficient training to do the jobs assigned

Suggestions:

their positions

Vision Statement #2
Develop and provide access to collections to answer the needs of different
disciplines of an internationally acclaimed university
Goals:
- 2A. Review resource allocations to provide equitable support for academic
disciplines and formats
- 2B. Increase funding for collection development (internal and external
funding)
- 2C. Organize and describe information in all formats to provide logical
search and retrieval
- 2D.Obtain ample internal and external funding to build and sustain
highest-level collections, systems, and facilities.
Suggestions:
- catalog important resources on Web
- expand e-reserve service (or new models of additional service)
- access to websites on PEG2 (updating issues)
- definition of collections-ownership vs access
- expand collection development activities vis-a-vis published/unpublished material

- 4C. Formal/required integration of library instruction/information competencies in
required courses
- 4D. Additional library instructors
- 4E. Increase collaboration with faculty (courses, special projects)

- 4G. Promotion of librarian role in instruction

resources in an effective environment for instruction and research
Goals:

information, including conservation issues
- 5B. Facilities for creation of information media (e.g. photography,
digitization)
- 5C. Facilities for use of information resources in all formats (both
individual and group)
- 5D. Adequate space for service points
- 5E. Adequate space/facilities for library employees
- 5F. Instructional space for both multimedia and other use
- 5G. Adequate meeting space for library and non-library groups
(conference rooms)
