News sources also cover the covering of the news; the above all have articles about news, news sources, and political reporting. Search the name of the news source by subject (ie, go to Academic Search Complete, search a news source (Fox News,New York Times,etc...)and search by SUBJECT TERMS.

Primary Sources

*  USA.gov Official portal to U.S. federal government. Guide to all things government, including agencies such as Social Security Administration, Congressional Budget Office, the White House, and Budget of the United States Government.
*  THOMAS official records of Congress. Includes all bills and bill status, laws, references to committee work, and transcripts of the floors of Congress.
*  Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents Official records of the President. Speeches, interviews, laws signed (with remarks if made), executive orders, etc.
*  Federal Election Commission FEC administers campaign laws. Disclosure of campaign funding. See also OpenSecrets.org, a popular interface to FEC data.
*  STAT-USA   UCSB! The State of the Nation section includes latest economic data.
*  U.S. Census Bureau
*  U.S. Code - U.S. statuatory law currently in force. For instance, see the law on federal campaign finance disclosure (amended by Public Law 107-155), and 527s.
Organizations and Business
*  OpenSecrets.org - OpenSecrets compiles data about political giving by various types of organizations, including '527s', a category of advocacy non-profits defined by tax law, and federal PACs, Political Action Committees, who operate under the regulation of the FEC.
*  LexisNexis Academic US Public Companies UCSB only!
Covers approximately 10,000+ U.S. companies. From the BUSINESS tab, select COMPANY PROFILES, then search in "US Public Companies" for access to reports from Disclosure Reports, Hoover's, Standard and Poor's, and several other major business directories.
*  LexisNexis Academic US Private Companies UCSB!
From the BUSINESS tab, select COMPANY PROFILES, then search in "US Private Companies" the US Business Directory, featuring information by 6 digit SIC, name, or location. Note that the Santa Barbara Public Library subscribes to more robust version of the US Business Directory (one that includes a handy parents/affiliates feature), but you need a library card to use it.
*  Dun & Bradstreet's Million Dollar Database UCSB only!
Covers 1.6 million public and private companies in the U.S. and Canada. More companies, less detail than Disclosure. Access is only to North American section of the database. Company information includes industry information with up to 24 individual 8-digit SICs, size criteria (employees and annual sales), type of ownership, principal executives and biographies. Please note that we only purchased access for one (1) user at a time. So, if you can't log it, please try again later, and when you finish searching, please log off. The corresponding print resource, the D & B Million Dollar Directory is available at Ref HC 102 .M54.
*  Associations UnlimitedUCSB!
Comprehensive directory of organizations around the world, leads to websites of various organizations, including political organizations.
Analysis
*  Congressional Research Service Reports -via Memory Hole. CRS Reports are good, non-partisan summaries of an issue, prepared for members of Congress. But they are difficult to find.
*  CQ Electronic Library UCSB! CQ (Congressional Quarterly) publishes the CQ Researcher (analysis of issues from all sides) and CQ Weekly (non-partisan Congressional roundup).
