Circulation

Most books (including periodicals) are available on open stacks and circulate through the Arts Library Circulation Desk on the first floor, using the same rules and procedures governing circulating material at Davidson Library. Anyone may use books, periodicals, scores, sound recordings, videos, and microforms in the Library; however, picture IDs are required to use special collection materials.

The Circulation Services web pages provide more information on obtaining library cards, loan periods, fines, and other policies. Special Arts Library policies are listed below.

Checking Out Library Materials

Circulation Desk (first floor):
  • regular loans
  • bound and unbound periodicals
  • art special loans
  • reserve materials (except music recordings)
  • Art "Cage" (restricted-use) books for in-library use only
Music Service Desk (second floor):
  • music special loans
  • sound and video recordings for in-library use only
  • sound and video reserve materials for in-library use only
  • Music "Cage" (restricted-use) books for in-library use only
Also ask at the appropriate service desk for help in using the art or music collections, locating missing books, renewing books, or placing holds and recalls.

Returning Library Materials

Regular loans may be returned to the inside book drops in the Davidson Library or Arts Library. If the library is closed, please use the after-hours drop-box located near the front door of the Arts Library. All materials returned after hours will be considered returned on the next open day.

SPECIAL LOANS of books and scores must be returned during open hours directly to a desk attendant at the Arts Library Circulation Desk. Special loans and same-day loans of recordings and videos must be returned during open hours directly to a desk attendant at the Music Service Desk. NEVER DROP THEM IN THE OUTDOOR BOX OR INDOOR CHUTE.

Renewing Library Materials

Arts Library books, except reserves, special loans, and same-day loans, may be renewed at either the Arts Library Circulation Desk or the Davidson Library Circulation Desk, or online via "Your Account" in PEGASUS.

Reserve Materials

For course reserve information, please refer to: Course Reserves or Electronic Reserves (ERes).

Materials placed on reserve for Art and Music classes can usually be checked out from the Arts Library Circulation Desk; however, some are placed on reserve at the Davidson Library Reserve Book Room. Sound and video recordings on reserve are available through the Music Service Desk.

Service Policies

  • Please do not bring food or drink into the Arts Library.
  • Water bottles are allowed in the building, but they must be closed and kept in backpacks.
  • No books will be checked out during the last ten minutes before closing.
